Pedo Pearls: Restorative Dentistry in Pediatric Dentistry

Course: Restorative Dentistry

Objecives:

Dental restorative materials seem to keep improving daily. This topic will discuss some of these materials including Glass Ionomer Cement as a better alternative to resins. The Slot Prep for Class 2 lesions in primary and permanent teeth will also be presented as a way of doing minimally invasive dentistry (MID).  A discussion on when to do ART and ITR will also be presented. Completing this talk will be a discussion on the rationale for not using benzocaine bases topical anesthetics and why Articaine is a better alternative than Lidocaine.  By the end of this presentation, the learner will be able to do more successful and predictable pediatric dental restorations with less stress for the clinician and the patient.

Goals:

  1. Explain the difference between PRR and ITR
  2. Describe the difference between a Class 2 GV Black prep and a Slot prep
  3. Compare and contrast the role of composite vs glass ionomer cement for restorations in primary and permanent teeth
